# Deprecation Notice

This page was written by Fax, the maintainer of VRCLibrary. It was also posted on the official VRCLibrary Discord server.

Hi, everyone! VRCLibrary is now deprecated. Existing users can still sign in and edit their content, but the creation of new accounts, pages, or comments is disabled. Logins will be disabled later this year, and the wiki will become read-only.

All pages also have an "export" button if you want to post your pages elsewhere. The maintainers of the community-driven [VRChat wiki](https://wiki.vrchat.com/) created a "Guides" namespace. I highly recommend it! [https://wiki.vrchat.com/wiki/Category:Guides](https://wiki.vrchat.com/wiki/Category:Guides)

Thank you to everyone who used & contributed to VRCLibrary! I posted a short retrospective below.

### Retrospective

Four years ago, there wasn't a good place for VRChat creators to share their knowledge with each other. I noticed that many creators were posting their own guides on their own sites (GitHub, GitLab, Notion, Twitter, etc.), making that knowledge harder to find. And previous "VRChat wiki" attempts fizzled out because maintaining a collaborative "VRChat wiki" created too much overhead for contributors.

I thought it was worth trying to create a website that's not a wiki, but a collection of guides focused on VRChat world and avatar creation. BookStack seemed like the perfect software for this because it focuses on individual contributors rather than collaboration. This allowed creators to post guides or wiki-like pages without requiring a wiki maintainer's permission or curation. And BookStack's "WYSIWYG" made writing pages easy, too!

I'm happy to say that VRCLibrary was a success, and it's all thanks to the creators who invested time and energy into writing and/or moving their guides to VRCLibrary. Thank you all for your hard work, and for helping creators discover VRChat creation for themselves!

### Why deprecate VRCLibrary?

It's been over four years since I created VRCLIbrary. Maintaining VRCLibrary does not take many resources, but it's a one-person project. I'm grateful that the VRChat Wiki exists now, and compared to VRCLibrary, it has a much more solid foundation - thanks to its team of wiki maintainers and official support from the VRChat team. Continuing to host VRCLibrary is not sustainable for me, so I hope the decision to deprecate it makes sense to you.
